"Honestly speaking, I do believe the School Counseling program at Hunter College is a good program to attend. Like all schools, the program has its faults, however, most professors are extremely helpful and provide students with information that we can use in our future employment opportunities."

"So far in my graduate experience the pros of my graduate program is the education I am receiving is rewarding. This is my first semester in graduate school and it has been a wonderful experience I am receiving almost everything I need. One con I think my graduate program needs to work on is providing enough writing tutoring."

"I am attending as part of the NYC Teaching Fellows, so my experience is a little bit different than the average student. Most of the professors I have encountered are very intelligent and have a lot to offer, but the workload can be quite considerable. The administration can also be very difficult to deal with because a lot of the time, it feels like there is conflicting information. The location is great for grabbing a bite to eat before class or heading to Central Park when it's warm, though it does take a while to get to/from the West side. I learn a lot from my classmates because they are such a diverse group of people, and I've met some of my best friends in the group. Overall, I feel like I've learned a lot in this program."

"The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College is a great program. The student body is extremely diverse. Our location within the community of East Harlem is perfect. The professors are excellent and care about the students. The classes offered are fascinating. There are on campus groups to join and participate in weekly meetings/workshops to further our education. The library has endless resources and the staff there and at the Writing Center are so willing to assist students. I love my graduate school. However, there is always room for improvement. The administration is not best because they do not always relay crucial information accurately or in a timely manner, which is frustrating for many students."

"Hunter's Masters in Adolescent Education in English is unique because your coursework is divided between two areas--pedagogy and curriculum courses in the Education department, and graduate level English literature courses in the English department. I did not find other programs that offer this many courses in your subject matter, especially at such a low cost. Hunter has an amazing network in order to help you search for jobs after graduation. My experience with the program so far is that they respect each student's time and that the courses are appropriately challenging. Navigating the bureaucracy of the NY Department of Education remains difficult. Hunter should try to continue improving its resources for students on how to register at the Department of Education, get fingerprinted, and get certified, since these processes can often be confusing."

"Pros: great facilities, diverse courses and student body, relatively affordable, fair grading, more progressive than other social work schools in NYC. Cons: location is not very central, you must specialize in your first year."

"The pros to my graduate program are the variety of topics learned on education and feeling prepared for NYC public schools because of the large range of information being taught and the cons would be not having a class on classroom management which is the number one issue for first year teachers and non creative class sessions, power point is not creative."

"Hunter College provides an affordable option for obtaining a high quality education with many options for employment and research. The technology and administration is seriously lacking in support and investment and can cause significant frustration for students and faculty alike."

"Hunter is listed a being one the top 10 social work graduate programs in the country. One of the pros regarding the MSW program at Hunter is primarily it's affordability. Person entering the social work field do not often make a lucrative salaries, as such good and affordable education is very important. Secondly, another pro regarding Hunter's program are the awesome faculty that provide real word experience and knowledge regarding the field. At present, i can not think of any cons regarding Hunter's Social Work program, as it has truly been an awesome experience for me and all that have been privileged to attend such a great program."

"The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College is one of the most competitive Social Work schools in the City of New York making graduates from this program attractive to potential employers in different settings (from community-based organizations to clinical facilities) providing them higher career opportunities during and after completion of studies. Nonetheless, due to its rigorous curriculum and excellent opportunity to build experience on a field placement, it is nearly impossible to hold a job or create an income throughout the course of the program, making the cost of living a big financial burden. However, the financial aid is always available for any questions regarding affording this program. The fact that the Silberman School of Social Work has its own building, makes possible professor-student communication as well as student life. The classes are small, which in my opinion makes the whole experience much better. I love this program due to its commitment to make students agents of change in this fast-paced society!!"

"Hunter is a great value. The programs are competitive because the cost is so low. There are literally the same professors who teach at Columbia, NYU, Fordham at a fraction of the cost. The downside is the logistical aspect. So you have to be proactive about any information you need, registering for classes, requirements for your program etc. they don't just provide it for you and things can slip through the cracks if you're not on top of it."

"This school does not subscribe to banking education and encourages critical thinking. A lot of things, such as transportation and internship requirement costs are out of pocket. Overall, this school is amazing for Social Work."

"Overall, the mental health counseling program has a great curriculum aimed at current issues, theories, as well as necessary counseling skills. It teaches upcoming counselors how to work with such a multicultural and diverse world. The campus is shared with undergraduate programs, but it located in the great location in Manhattan. The library and other campuses are being renovated, a bit slower than I would like but what has been done is great. There as several campuses to Hunter College on the east side but most classes are held at the main campus. The professors have a variety of experiences, and most are supervising or have their own practices. Everyone I have met in the program have been helpful with career ideas and tips. The tuition is much less than private schools. Their are events throughout the school so social life is 'okay' just because most people in the program have other responsibilities . That being said, it is a program that is just a bit more flexible than others with evening courses available for those who work full time. Workload is manageable, reading, responses and even an internship is required for the program. If you are interested I say do the research and speak with advisors to get a clear picture of the requirements, etc."
