"I can only speak for the nursing program. I was very young when I began the program, and I had no idea how college differed from high school. In high school, textbooks were a formality. One read the book once. That's not studying. In college, the stakes are higher. The grades are more difficult to achieve. And nursing school is something you can only pass if you pour every fiber of your life into it. I contested every missed question on a test. It's a test of resolve, not just a test of intellect. You will be reviewed on your attitude, how you deal with pressure, and how the teacher perceives you. Don't show them your weaker side. Don't mention your dreams outside of nursing school. I was told by a teacher at the end of my first semester that they doubted I would make it to the final exam. I feel as though I wasn't properly warned about this fact. Half of my class disappeared after the first semester. Tests were every two weeks. To pass- not to make an A- to PASS, I had to read the textbook chapters, highlight them, write notes on my highlighting, go back and re-highlight, make quizlet sets to remember my notes, and test through three question databases. And once one test period was done, the cycle began over again. It will take away your time with family and friends. Some people made it through the program with a part time job, but I can't begin to understand how. It's a tough program, but all nursing programs are. It'll get you to where you need to be."
