"UT is truly a Research I institution, so even the faculty in area studies do a lot of research, and many of the professors in Middle Eastern Studies are devoted to teaching as well. The main cons are the stressful workload and lack of support for career development. I feel discouraged from asking for advice about careers in academia, or alt-ac careers."

"Overall, my experience with UT at Austin and the graduate program I took was an excellent one. As an international student I often needed guidance with my academic endeavors. Not only that I received help and guidance, but I also felt proud to be a member of an educational community preoccupied with the interests, future, and personal development of its members. I was also impressed by the quality of teaching and the variety of researches conducted, as well as by the dynamic circulation of ideas in the academic setting. There are no significant minuses to my experience with UT. However, if I must mention at least one, this would be the slow and confusing bureaucratic system, although I'm convinced that it is a rather general problem, not necessarily specific to UT.Read Less"
