"Hastings is a great program for readying students to take part in the working world. There is a heavy emphasis on cultivating professional legal skills, including legal writing and oral advocacy. Students leave Hastings ready to participate in their field of expertise. This heavy emphasis, while it has led to Hastings' fantastic reputation in regards to advocacy and as a producer of judges at the state and federal level, does have its issues. Hastings' bar passage has suffered in recent years. From a student perspective, that seems to be a direct result of the importance placed on professional readiness and involved advocacy as opposed to traditional bar courses. The bar courses are offered, but many are shorter and supply far fewer units than those offered at other schools. All in all, I have greatly enjoyed my time here, and do feel prepared to take the bar and enter the working world."
