"The department of Community Health Sciences at UCLA is one of the top 10 well regarded Public Health programs in the country. The school is well connected with hospitals and organizations locally and abroad which allows one to network and also have great job prospects upon graduation. The department emphasizes on helping you develop professionally. There are always professional development workshops happening throughout the year, typically hosted by professors/faculty and/or alumni. The professors are well versed and they teach interesting topics that are typically about current events. Although the class sizes can be large, the professors make themselves available and are very welcoming. If you have interest in training abroad, you can, and they also offer a global health certificate. Although the program is costly, they do offer funding in various aspects. For example you can get your tuition paid for along with a stipend, if you serve as a teachers assistant. There are also many scholarship opportunities open throughout the year that also can help offset the costs as well."

"Graduate school is better than undergraduate. The people around you are smarter and you're all held to a higher standard. That being said, it is not necessarily harder. I have quite enjoyed my time here and have made many good friends. The teachers are good at what they do and most of them care about students."

"Excellent learning environment and outstanding support from professors and staff. My advisor and committee were really helpful in making the doctoral experience a unique one, where immense learning became the focus of my experience throughout. Now I am better equipped to make a contribution in the field of public health."

"The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health provides a stimulating and rigorous intellectual environment on a pristine campus in a diverse and exciting city. The school is committed to social justice and bettering the lives of the citizens of Los Angeles and beyond. In addition, the faculty are caring and accessible. However, the school is experiencing a budget crisis akin to many other public universities, which could make finding funding for studies difficult. The area of Westwood, where UCLA resides, is expensive to live and there are bureaucratic challenges dealing with UCLA administration. In addition, the classroom facilities and technology infrastructure are behind the times and not always on par with the prestige of the University. Overall, it is still a good value graduate program."

"The department I'm in is a bit short-staffed, but many of the faculty care for their students' learning and will do their best to teach. They are almost always friendly and approachable. It's hard to live in LA without a car, you mostly stay in the same area, but there's a good number of things to do still, so it's not too bad. All in all, a great place for graduate school."
