"I wish I had read some of these posts on Walden University. Now I am regretting my decision to start and presently I am unable to complete my program with just two courses to complete in order to graduate. These courses require a preceptor. I was told to go on their website and locate the sites that they have on meditrek, every one of these sites that they claim is an affiliation is a lie. Walden stated that you can't use a hospital or nursing home but if every email they sent me with information for sites were just that. Every preceptor I tried was not willing to do face to face because of COVID and would perhaps do tele conferencing which Walden refuse to accept. I complained asked for help in finding a preceptor and nothing no one is willing to help. I have written several emails never even heard back from my so-called advisor that was assigned. Walden does not follow up to find out why you are not enrolled in classes. Please take it from me and learned from my mistake go somewhere else. They are better schools out there. They have lost me as a student for the Master's program since I pay out of pocket and with no aid. I assuming that they treat students who get aids better that those who pay up front."

"The practicum is the worst part of the entire program, it's 2 courses and they'll be towards the end of the program. There's a facebook group for the people enrolled in the Tempo RN-BSN program, I highly suggest you look into this practicum before enrolling into the school. Even with COVID they do not allow you to meet with your practicum mentor online (through ZOOM or TEAMS), which is difficult when you're a travel nurse. It's also very confusing because you don't actually go to the field to do the research, it takes at least 6 weeks to get your practicum application approved or denied. They offer no help in find a mentor for the practicum, this experience has stressed me out so much. I really wish I would have gotten my BSN elsewhere. I've copied and pasted the information my program advisor sent me: Thank you again. Regarding your future BSN Tempo Practicum Courses: 4210/4211 and 4220/4221. As we discussed, for NURS 4210/4211 and NURS 4220/4221, you will need to choose a mentor for your practicum project. Again, to clarify, these practicum courses do not involve direct patient care, but rather, are focused on 1) a population health project, and 2) a quality improvement project. Please review the information below, as well as the attachments above. Your mentor must meet the following criteria: Prior to approval, the mentor’s license and certification (if applicable) is verified and the Mentor Commitment Form is evaluated by the Office of Field Experience. Walden’s approval of the mentor candidate is based on several criteria. • The mentor must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to the role. • Specific mentor requirements by course are as follows: o NURS 4210/4211: It is preferred that the mentor be a nurse. If a nurse is not available, other qualified interdisciplinary professionals with a role in population health or public health would qualify. Examples of mentors could include public health nurses, infectious disease nurses/physicians, public safety personnel, public health staff, school nurses, nutritionists, health educators, or diabetes educators. o NURS 4220/4221: The mentor must be a nurse. Examples of mentors include chief nursing officer, directors, nurse managers, quality improvement nurses, Undergraduate Nursing Practicum Manual (June 2019) Page 13 nurse managers of a patient care unit, manager of quality improvement, nursing educators, infection control practitioners, or other qualified nursing leaders. • If the mentor is an RN, the mentor must be currently licensed with an unencumbered license to practice professional nursing in the state where the practice experience will occur. • The mentor must have a minimum of 1 year of experience and a current job role relevant to the project. Mentors in the state of Washington must have a minimum of 2 years of experience due to state board of nursing requirements. • The mentor must be able and willing to commit to the mentor role for the practice experience. • The mentor must be employed at the field site where the practice experience takes place. • The mentor must not be a student’s relative, any type of family member, personal friend, or significant other. • The mentor may be the student’s direct or immediate supervisor. "I would absolutely do everything you can to stay away from this school. It is the definition of a degree mill. They do NOT care about you. They do NOT care about your degree. They care about numbers and money. It is a MAJOR waste for those with military benefits. Those using chapter 33 should especially stay away from them AND their tempo based learning. You do NOT get your BAH every month. They send you $200 for 3 months because of the way they enroll you. So they waste months and months of your benefits for 3 months worth of course work. While tempo based seems legit (you can get as much done as you want in 3 months) it isn't all that. Their teachers (especially public health) will IGNORE you for days on end if you are moving too quickly. They design the tests VERY poorly. I have argued with the school about a test I keep failing repeatedly. I have shown them where in the reading the answer is right, but the useless teacher refuses to acknowledge me or my correct answer. Do yourself a favor... stay AWAY. I promise the other poor reviews are accurate. This is a DEGREE MILL. They make you take BS classes to fulfill your degree requirements. I was previously enrolled in my MSN program but decided to take a step back with COVID and working. I went back to finish up my bachelors and suddenly I had to take 3 or 4 additional GENERAL EDUCATION classes... Tell me how that makes ANY sense! The course work is DRY. You don't learn ANYTHING. It is nauseating how many papers they have you write for a basic nutrition class. It just isn't worth it. I learned way more at my community college and nursing college then I did with this online BS "institution". You waste time and money. It is also bait click to get you in... promises to complete your degree within 6-9 months if tempo based, when in reality the professors wont allow you to. They will slow you down by refusing to open competencies and responding to you when you have questions or discussion board requirements. A TOTAL lie and sham. DO. NOT. WASTE. YOUR. TIME."

"Walden is a complete nightmare. I am currently in my third term, and will be withdrawing. The bursar’s office is completely incompetent, my employer’s tuition reimbursement office has had to deal with them several times because it seems they can not comprehend the process when they are the ones who have an agreement with my employer! The subject matter experts (their term for professor) are generally useless with a few exceptions. I’ve reached out for help and the return email has a link to a YouTube video to watch! They have no desire to actually help or teach you anything. I wish I would’ve done more research into schools, Walden is for profit and it shows. They don’t care about students at all, they just want to keep the money rolling in. I’ll be attending a local brick and mortar with an online program."

"I attended Walden online for my bachelors degree and had a good experience. any online nursing program has to have students that are self motivated, none will hold your hand. I completed 2 classes at a time and they were 6 weeks a piece. I am currently looking for a start date for a NP program with Walden. I see alot of reviews that complain about having to find your own preceptors.... just wanted to say that is the norm for online NP programs. every NP i work with has had to find there own, and I work with NP that attended Perdue, chamberlin, georgetown, and south carolina . Online schools are meant for convenience of working people . You have to know that or you will not be successful in any online program. You always have great professors and not so great professors.. at any school online or in person:)"

"Easy access to classroom activities. The writing center is key to success. Faculty is also available to make your transition through school easier to get through. I feel the work presented at Walden has greatly improved my ability to critically think. Yes there is a lot of research and writing involved through papers and discussions. I am at the point where I just wanted to do what I need to do to get where I want to be. I do not need too much interaction with other students and most of the work can be easily completed. The classwork, and papers are at least as demanding as any I have written in the past. This is the only school I know of that require referenced citations for in class comments and postings. I recommend Walden to those who have good study and computer skills, and can work well independently with online support when needed. I also like the interaction between students. The discussions allow for in-depth conversations about current topics that matter in the world of nursing. Completion requires self-organization, self-regulation, self-management, self-motivation. If you are unable to think independently, you will not succeed at Walden. In addition to the academic rigor, the student support services at Walden were excellent. I always received a response to questions/issues/problems within 24 hours and always satisfactory from advising, financial aid, the writing center, the research center, registrar, etc. Also, the Walden Library is superb and I will greatly miss having access to it. I highly recommend Walden University."

Also, the classes compelled me to critically think. The most enjoyable thing that I enjoyed with online learning was that I was able to attend school at my kitchen table in my pajamas."

"I would not recommend Walden University. They were very responsive to general questions at first. However, I have placed several calls (to several different staff members) to inquire if their RN to BSN program meets requirements to apply for a PHN certification and I can't even get someone to return my call much less answer my question. I cant imagine what current students go through if they have questions. Disappointed to say the least."

"I believe Walden U was the best choice I made to obtain my BSN. The faculty are friendly, helpful, and return e-mails promptly. Grading is done quickly with great feedback. My advisors call to check in and make sure I am okay. I think the workload is appropriate for being a full time nurse as well. I also get a discount for working at a VA hospital and believe the pricing is comparable to other schools. Everything that was discussed by the counselor before I enrolled was accurate and the staff was very friendly. If I need to speak with my counselor I can schedule an appointment and they call me right on time. I am very happy with my decision and would recommend this school to anyone!"
