"I am interested in epidemiology because of the opportunities at Xavier University such as interning at New Orleans Health and Hospital in the Genetic Disease Young Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. The department focuses on getting Louisiana children in all parishes who are on Medicaid healthcare plan tested for lead poisoning. Medicaid reported that 70% of the infants on their healthcare plan are tested for lead poisoning. Their policy states that infants are to be tested within one year after birth. The database HLPPSS showed me that most of the infants on Medicaids list were not tested for lead poisoning. To conduct further analysis, I used Medicaids medical eligibility system to see the infants identification number (RID) and the insurance plan the infants were on. The list of infants that I reviewed from Medicaid were verified in 2014 and 2015. The 1% increase showed that the intervention from the department was effective because it lowered the risk of developmental delay and learning disabilities among children in Louisiana. This experience has led me to believe that Xavier University really pursues it mission which is to promote a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. Xavier has made an impact on my life so much that I decided to further my education at Charles Drew University. Another institution that cultivates the minds of students of color. I believe that the connections these universities have position students for where they are now and where life is going to take them. I thank Xavier University for being a stepping and a guide to my future."

"The Political Science program at Xavier University of LA is phenomenal!! The guidance and knowledge that each student receives is priceless. Faculty and staff are highly qualified. They make you feel as if you are their only student in the class. I suggest that each student build a close relationship with the Department Head, Dr. Pamela Moore. She is a gem! She exemplifies the quality of education and faculty that Xavier offers. The networking abilities of Xavier is astonishing! The respect and curriculum of this university is known WORLDWIDE! It has continued to be raked #1 in the Nation on educating African American Doctors. That is a stellar accomplishment!"

"Xavier University offers a very personable experience for the Master's program in education. The professors are well versed in the subject matter and all have wide ranges of experience in education. The staff members operate as professionals and are truly are passionate about the graduate students. The courses are generally hybrid roles, so it make is much easier for a working student to manage the time and work load. Overall, the experience has been really positive."

"Xavier leads the nation in placing African-Americans in medical school. And while the school is known for its science majors, I have to say that I was pleased with the communications department in my time there. Many of us went on to careers in communications, including several people, along with myself, who became print reporters. We also had several people work in radio and television, as well as PR. I say this to say that the school really has some strong departments. It was also a very close-knit community. Basically, I'm a proud XU alum."

"Small school environment. Professors are very helpful and will work with you. Financial aid is a hass but they will work with you also. One secret I wish I had knew in my years going there was to speak with the person who gives out the scholarships. No matter your gpa, they can and will help you."

"My graduate program at Xavier University of Louisiana was exceptional. The pros of the Education department is small teacher:student ratio, personal and supportive staff, real-world applicable learning. Cons of the University at large are lack of funding and lack of graduate programs."

"The graduate program is excellent in preparing students to pass the licensure exam after graduation. The curriculum is a bit challenging at times, but after taking the courses, even if they were harder than they should be, I do believe that the students should do well on the naplex exam if they do pretty well in the courses. I believe a flaw in the program is that they cram so much material in a single lecture, and the exams for the classes are crammed in the same week. It feels like finals week during the weeks we have three exams because there is just so much covered on a single exam. With that being said, I believe the program overall is a great program, and I am getting great experience and training with patients."

"Xavier University of Louisiana is a well-balance cultural school and it is located in famous New Orleans. The main buildings of the campus are in a good walking distance from each other. The teachers and staffs are always available to assist the students. Special programs are open to students of all majors. One bad fact about this school is the road construction that has currently started. The estimated time of completion is unknown. Therefore, traffic will be painful."

"My Pharmacy program at Xavier University is one of the top programs in the state of Louisiana. The environment and academics of the program are great. However, transportation to the university can be difficult due to traffic. Still, the graduate program provide excellent opportunity and resource for all students."

"I am just beginning my graduate program and already all the counselors and professors are very helpful. My program is pretty small and I can tell that I will know my professors and be able to talk with them anytime. This is very different from me coming from an undergraduate program where I mostly had classes of 50 to sometimes 200 people in one class."
