"I feel that one of the pros of my graduate program are the classroom and student environment. My class sizes are very small, the teachers care for the students, and the student body is diverse. Professors do an excellent job of preparing students for the realities of the social work profession. They also give students an understanding of what to expect when working with clients. The field work office is also a major pro of my graduate program as they have given me the opportunity to do my second-year field placement in San Francisco, California. The field work office has developed strong relationships with social service agencies in New York City and in other cities in the US and abroad. I believe this is one of my favorite attributes of the graduate school program. One of the cons of my graduate program is the communication from the administration to the student body. I feel that the administration doesn't communicate to students in a timely matter when important deadlines or events are coming up. The administration also doesn't communicate to students about important resources that can help them through their graduate experience. As a result, students are left in the dark about important resources or are left to their own devices to find out about these resources. Another con of my graduate program is the communication from the teachers to the student body regarding course work and assignments. Many times the course syllabus doesn't align with what the teacher demands from students in the course. Additionally, I believe that teachers need to be more clear when explaining course assignments."

"Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology offers a highly reputable Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program. The program is highly regarded within the field and the faculty are quite accomplished. This reputation serves students well when competing for clinical extern- and internship positions. The majority of faculty members are engaged with and accessible to students and clearly display investment in students' education. The training received in class is sound and the program makes a good effort to stay abreast of latest developments and trends in the field. On the downside, the cost of the program is steep and few financial aid opportunities exist within the college. Additionally, the campus is located in the Bronx and as most students opt to live in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens, it has the feel of a commuter school with fewer opportunities to build community with classmates than a school located more centrally to its students."

"Pros include the program's excellent reputation in the greater new york area, it's externship director and the unique opportunity for advanced dual training in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral techniques. There is also an in-house free standing clinic which allows for great access to patients for student psychologists. Students are extremely intelligent and diversified in their educational backgrounds and life experiences. Cons include the current classroom facility--an issue which is being addressed since classes will be moving to a new location soon. Surrounding area could also be improved."

"The program has faculty members who practice the skills they teach in class. The classes in the social work program assist the students to process their own feelings, perspectives and experiences before working with clients. The school offers support through the faculty members and social workers for the students. The cons for the summer block program is that the school has not developed relationships with agencies outside of New York, and the faculty members do not offer feedback or support for the students who are in the summer block program."
