Gettysburg College offers beautiful campus grounds, decent (but lacking in cultural/ethnic flavor) food, generous financial aid, quality gym facilities and facility workers who are more than polite. I will acknowledge the availability of my professors and their willingness to help, however there were some professors who undermined my abilities, but did not have the same reservations about my fairer skinned counterparts. Now, the surrounding campus is unwelcoming for students of color, as there are confederate flags and remnants of the pre-civil war south everywhere. In my experience as a student of color, I felt threatened by my more privileged, and white counterparts, as hate messages were shared across campus. From chants of build the wall or we are the 1%, to being called a n*****, witnessing students participate in islamophobia and hate speech, and pleading to administrators who would not defend students targeted by the community as anchor babies. These things being said, I am grateful for the opportunities that Gettysburg afforded me, and the opportunities that I did not take advantage of. The school is making visual changes towards honing a community welcoming for all, but still has progress to make.

Gettysburg College is a tight-knit community of undergraduates. The students always seem to be enjoying themselves while maintaining a rigorous workload. Living on campus is required for all four years, and the facilities are very nice. Most students study abroad in their sophomore or junior year. The center for globalization studies provides resources and makes this process easy. The food on campus attracts a lot of students. Our dining center, servo, always has healthy and delicious options. The school prides... Read More itself on providing great alternative options for students with allergies. Classes are usually small and professors encourage student participation. Going to class is necessary unlike some bigger schools, and creating a relationship with professors is easy and rewarding. It seems like most of the students here are involved with athletics whether it be varsity, club, or intramural. The majority of students live a healthy lifestyle and present themselves well. Overall the school is a great place to grow as a young adult.
