If you are a military veteran, I highly suggest reading this and using your hard earned benefits somewhere else. MTI is indiscriminate on who they "work" your benefits so that they can keep bleeding them dry, and you can keep getting cheated passively out of your money...take it from the veteran with various disabilities when I tell you they do not care. Read More a 1/4 loss in pay of benefits because they cannot help you meet the prerequisites based on Units....I have spent much time talking to VA representatives lately. There is no reason to base our BAH off of units when you can do it based off of Hours. A warning well ahead would have also been nice to prepare for this. There seems to be some major disconnect when it comes to the veteran benefits here. Coming from a working class family, I am the first of us to go to college. I do not know the difference between a diploma and a degree. This error winds up making life VERY difficult for me. I fail the entry class into the IT year 2 program which locks me out of this for another 3 months. I try to make up my benefits through taking GE courses, turns out I cannot because I have not the prerequisites there. When I bring up this issue to them the reply is "we have a recording of you agreeing to these terms". I am being screened for liver cancer, I have a brain injury, some hearing loss, and a few other problems. A recording is not something I am really concerned with, I just wanted help. I am not really sure what the college gets out of doing this, but after talking with a few other veterans on campus the same thing has happened to them when it comes to this confusion. Maybe they should not assume that military members understand school? This has cut me off from precious funding. I am living off of my disability at the moment. It makes for a rough life, one that could have been avoided completely had I had warning/ better communication from MTI. After having no debt issues at all, I am now having to place large purchases through credit because I am put in a situation where I cant afford to eat. I guess as long as MTI keeps getting money and wants to play the legal game; why should they care? Its a shame, most of they're staff is excellent. Some of the teachers are some of my favorite people ever. My first year here was excellent. They really forced me into a bad situation here, I have been trying to find work for weeks and have their career services helping me. They have also been great. And by the way the 1/2 BAH benefits I was told would happen, is likely not happening. I was told to push through for a term so I can go back to 3/4 BAH, but I probably wont even get this. If I thought things were bad now, they are about to get far worse after taking a full pay cut of $1800 for the month. I have no idea what I am going to do.
